Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra Workshop - Second Offering
Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra are gentle, restorative, tension-relieving practices. They are both profound tools for the relief of suffering.
Yin Yoga will feel familiar to anyone who has practiced asana, but it is distinguished by its attention to the body’s connective tissue, which is less elastic than muscle and requires poses to be held for a longer period of time to create a beneficial effect. Most physical discomfort is caused not by muscular weakness or dysfunction, but by tension and limitation in the joints of our knees, back, shoulders, etcetera.
Yoga Nidra is the practice of reducing tension in our consciousness. While in savasana (lying comfortably on our backs) students are guided in a systematic meditation that explores and eases physical and mental tension. The practice accomplishes a kind of self-hypnosis in which the meditator may induce desired changes in thought/behavior patterns.
One does not achieve relaxation--reduction of tension--by simply lying down and being still. Relaxation is a conscious process that requires attention. This workshop will acquaint you with the fundamentals of these complementary healing practices.
Our first session will be three hours long to allow time for description, activity, and questions/discussion. The following three sessions will be ninety minutes and focus primarily on the prescribed sequences of Yin and Yoga Nidra.
